Our Parents
Watch our parent testimonials to learn more about their Meeting Street experiences.
Just as we have a relationship with every child at Meeting Street, we are also committed to developing meaningful and helpful relationships with each child’s parents and caretakers. We believe each child’s success is enhanced when parents are supported and are involved in goal setting and treatment plans. We provide parents the know-how so learning and therapy continues in the home. Our goal is to help parents become experts in their child’s care and build their confidence so they know they are doing the right thing for their child. We also understand the emotional ups and downs parents experience and always take the time to listen, to offer suggestions and sometimes to give a much-needed hug.
Specific education and development goals are set for all children receiving Meeting Street services in our schools, in Bright Futures or through our Early Intervention or Therapeutic Services. Parents are involved in goal setting and informed as their child progresses. Goals are monitored through such things as the child’s IEP reports, daily communication logs and parent-teacher nights. Some of the most enlightening and reassuring conversations happen at pick up and drop off of children at our facility or before and after therapy sessions. Parents and children receiving Early Intervention assistance in their homes get the chance to ask questions during every session.
Parents Helping Parents
Parents who have children with special needs may face challenges every day. Our staff is available to help parents and families figure out the best way to face these challenges. We have found, and our parents would agree, that sometimes the best support comes from another parent. We run parent support groups at our facility, parents connect when their children are in playgroups, and sometimes a conversation with another parent in our lobby is the most helpful and reassuring connection a parent can make.
Parents who have children in Bright Futures, The Grace School and The Carter School have the opportunity to participate in the respective Parent-Staff Organization (PSO). Just like any other PSO, parents, teachers and staff members meet monthly to discuss educational issues, organize school social events and plan school fundraisers. Parents also get involved in special events like our Family Fair, the annual Telethon, Book Fair, the High School Prom, and field trips.
